The 4 Keys to Effectively Implementing Your Marketing Plan
Four factors will help you effectively implement your plans:
- persistence
- making incremental changes
- continuously monitoring your results
- consistent focus on achieving your desired results
Essentially, in order to implement your plan effectively, you have to work smart…not just hard.
Just working hard keeps you busy…by working smart, you work to achieve the results that you desire.
Persistence
Successfully completing a marathon requires endurance and persistence. So does running your own business.
Unfortunately, when confronted with competing demands for their time and energy, many owners ignore marketing and give priority to more pressing matters. Once ignored, marketing is soon abandoned completely.
Successful business people on the other hand, are not deterred by unexpected obstacles. They persist in following their plans, continuing to do whatever must be done to achieve their desired results.
By persisting in implementing your plan you will gain a competitive advantage over other business that have no plans or whose plans are poorly implemented.
Making Incremental Changes
Remember the Chinese proverb, the biggest journey starts with the smallest step?
What about the old cliché about how to eat an elephant…one bite at a time?
Both statements offer the same important lesson: when faced with a huge task…don’t focus on the enormity of what must be done..just do it…one small piece at a time.
This same approach of one small piece at a time applies equally to implementing your marketing plan.
Successful marketing is a gradual step-by-step process. Each succeeding achieved result is builds on the one that went before it…and prepares the way for the one that follows.
By starting with the small and easy changes first, you develop the momentum that will help you successfully implement bigger and more difficult challenges as they arise.
Continuously Monitoring Your Results
As long as you run your business, marketing will be an important and continuous of your success.
This means that you should also continue to implement your plan…and track the results that you achieve.
Regularly, ideally monthly, review the results that you achieved from your marketing activities and monitor the progress that you are making towards your ultimate goals.
Also make sure that your plans are flexible enough that you can respond to trends and patterns that you see developing…both in your own results and external factors.
If you work with support staff or as part of a team, keep these people in the loop. Ensure that everyone is aware of overall progress and their own contribution to achieving the ultimate goals.
Consistent Focus On Achieving Your Desired Results
If you have ever played sports such as baseball, golf or tennis, you know all too well that taking your eye off the ball limits your likelihood of success.
Many business owners are not very good at keeping their eyes on the ball…achieving their goals.
They allow themselves to shift their focus to other tasks, wasting time, energy and resources that should be used to achieve their goals.
To keep your eye on your business ball—remain focused on completing those things that are necessary to achieve your goals.
This means that everything you do in your business must help achieve your goals.
Not sure about whether or not something will help achieve your goals. “How does taking this action contribute to the achievement of my goals?” If the action will help you achieve your goals, give it your best efforts.
If on the other hand, it won’t hep you achieve your goals, put it aside and do something that will help you get to where you want to be.
