Golf Stance Tips

Many newer golfers (and a few older ones, too) have a tendency to misalign themselves when they take their stance. Normally, what they will do is aim way right of the target and they do this for a reason. Players who are misaligned from the get go and aim right are usually players who try to swing with their arms. When they do this the ball will almost always take off to the left. So what they are doing with this “right side” target trick is trying to fix a problem before it even happens!

In theory, this shouldn’t be a problem…but this is not theory, it’s golf. When an “arm swinger” forces his ball back on the fairway by overcompensating his alignment, he thinks he’s doing himself a favor. But on those occasions when he actually makes a good, solid full body swing, his ball zips off into the trees on the right or into a right side bunker and he gets mad, and what’s worse is that by using this misaligning method he’s never going to reach his full potential as a golfer.

These players need to work on the basics of their swing, using their body as a whole and not just their arms. But they also need to know what their alignment is.

So how can you (or anyone else for that matter) see what your alignment is to the target?

Well, here’s a simple and very effective tip to determine what your target alignment really is.

Take a stance (your usual stance), aim at a target that you would hit at, and then lay a club down on the ground from toe to toe. Now step back about 8 or 10 paces behind the ball and club that you laid down and sight down the club. Sighting down this club will reveal your alignment.

If the club is a bit left of the target, then you’re fine. But if it’s to the right of the target, you are out of alingment. Simple but effective.

If you discover that you are out of alignment (that the club on the ground is pointing to the right of the target) then you need to work on squaring up your stance.

Being square to the target is one of the most important tips in golf. Every ball you hit will be effected by this stance–either in a good way or (if you’re in a misaligned stance) a bad way. It really is that simple.

Now when you are certain that you are in a square stance, hit a few balls. If the ball goes way left of the target, you know you are pulling it by trying to use too much of your arms. If the ball goes way right, you know you are allowing your body to slide too much through impact.

By being in a square stance and evaluating a few practice shots, you can determine a lot about your swing and those areas that you need to work on.

Basic Chip Shot Golf Tips

It’s a short low running approach golf shot with overspin or bite used in approaching the green. Other terms used for chipping are:
Chip In – When your ball rolls into the cup after chipping, you hole out with a chip shot.
Chip-and-run – A chip shot intended to run the ball after landing.
Chili-dip – A mishit chip shot, the clubhead hitting the ground well before it hits the ball.

If you wonder: when chipping? The answer is: in every situation within a few yards of the green.

Chip Shot Golf Sequence

Basic Chip Shot Golf Tips

This step by step chip shot checklist will help to drill and improve your chip shot techniques.

1. Take a 6-, 7-, 8- or 9-iron or pitching wedge.

2. Use your normal grip for this chip shot.

3. Address the ball with a narrow stance. The ball placed more towards back foot.

4. Open your feet and shoulders a little bit, not too wide.

5. Lean your body a bit to the left of the pin.

6. Keep your shoulders and your wrists firm, like you should hit with a putter.

7. Hands ahead of the ball, inside your left thigh. Your left hand has to block the vision of your left knee. Right hand for lefthanded golfers.

8. Lean your weight to your front foot.

9. Aim the face of your lady golf club towards the target.

10. Make a slow tempo swing with your arms and shoulders. Like you want to put. Your arms and shoulders move like a pendulum clock.

11. Touch the ground – before you chip the ball. Crisps the grass. Accelerate through the ball and hit it off the toe of the club. Keep your hand ahead of the ball at impact.

12. The follow through of a chip shot should have the same length as your back swing, as mentioned before, like a pendulum clock. A short back swing causes short distance chipping, a long one a longer traject.

13. The golf club lifts the ball up in the air. Practice a lot, and you can make a perfect chip shot on the fairway within a reasonable distance to the pin.

14. And: Don’t look up to early! I think that’s my most important tip for chip shot golf.

3 Really Simple (But Very Important) Left Handed Golf Tips

With only 10-15% of people in the world blessed to be left-handed, the percentage of those that choose to pursue the game of golf creates a very small minority in the game.  In the past, it has been difficult for left-handed golfers to find instruction or even equipment that was made specifically for them.  But with the uprising of successful players such as US Masters winner’s Mike Weir (2003) and Phil Mickelson (2004), more lefties are making their mark and enjoying this great game.

If you are a leftie with your eye on the golf ball, consider these left handed golf tips for a great golfing experience:

Tip #1:  Find Your Natural Swing

Many lefties can successfully play golf right-handed and feel perfectly natural doing so since they are leading with their left side, left eye and pushing the ball to the left.  The key to choosing which side works best for you depends solely upon your natural swing.  Deciding whether your natural inclination is to swing from the left or from the right is imperative for lefties.

Tip #2: Get the Proper Equipment

If you decide that left is best, getting a set of left handed golf clubs is a must.  Using a right hand swing, you will miss out on your natural left side power and coordination.  So, even if you began your golfing experience using a right handed set and swing, the most critical thing you can do to improve your game is to embrace your “leftness”, make the switch and purchase the proper clubs.

Tip #3:  Solve Game Problems with the Right (Left) Instructor

If you find yourself among the vast majority of players that suffer from “kinks” in their game, make sure that you get proper instruction from someone who either plays left-handed, or can teach left-handed.  Getting a good instructor can make a huge difference in cutting strokes off of your game.

Remember: the game of golf is more about your eyes than your hands.  Following these left handed golf tips can put you on the cart path to success.

How to start playing golf? 8 winning tips for amateur golfers

So youve always wanted to play golf but your boss never asked you on a game before? Don’t worry. Everybody can and should enjoy this wonderful sport. Sure, golf can be expensive and hard to learn but if you know what you’re doing you’re up for the time of your life.

When you want to play basketball all you need is’ well’ a basket, and a ball. But golf requires more equipment than just a ball. Like in any sports, golf equipment spins an entire industry and you can find anything from clubs to gloves, and they usually come with a nice price tag.

So here’s Tip No.1: Don’t spend all your kids’ college money on equipment until you know how to play and if you want to play. Don’t buy a 5000 dollar manatee leather club (it’s illegal!) instead, go for mid range sports manufacturers that sell 100 dollar clubs.

Even if you are a pro on the Pirate Mini Golf and you beat your children every time – it doesn’t mean you know how to golf. Tip No.2 will be: take golf lessons. You’ll find group lessons with golfers in your skill range and you might make friends to golf with. There are also individual lessons with a private instructor or your town’s pro golfer. While private lessons focus on your individual skills, they can be quite expensive and take more time than group lessons. Remember that after you get the basics – the real lessons are on the field.

Tip No.3 is to continue practicing at home. No, not in your back yard. Golf has much to do with technique and watching instructional videos can help a lot. You can also go online and find many tips and clips that can improve your game.

Tips No. 4, 5, 6 : Grip, posture and stance. The three essentials of golf. Grip means how you hold the club and the better you grip the better you play. Posture leads to a proper swing and maintaining balance is essential. Having a stable golf stance and footing will help you control the ball and get it where you want it to go.

If you don’t want golf balls flying at your direction, you better know Golf Etiquette and that’s our Tip No.7 ! Golf Etiquette covers the basic golfer’s code that will ensure everybody is having a pleasant time whether they are pros or amateur golfers. Golf Etiquette urges you to be patient and respect your fellow golfers; speak in normal voice and don’t shout or laugh too loud; check your ball number to avoid winning (or loosing) someone else’s game; don’t stand too close to the swing zone of other players and the list goes on and on.

Tip No. 8 is to simplify your golf learning process and get the reinforcement you need to sustain the positive advances you make. Work on your swing and short game, and dive deep into the mental aspect of the game, shoring up any weak links you may have found difficult to hurdle with previous instructional techniques.
